We’re Okay

July 7, 2005 on 8:50 pm | In General |

Just to let everyone know, Auntie and I are okay. Neither one of us were in or near London at the time of the bombing today. Like most folk here, we are a bit shaken up by the whole thing, but otherwise no worse for wear. As we were watching the news tonight, Auntie commented that she was down by King’s Cross station, where 21 people were killed today, just a week ago. Having traveled through most of the affected areas myself, it’s more than a little disconcerting. Hell, even the first Harry Potter movie was filmed on the walking bridge over King’s Cross.

At work, folks were really pulling together, giving coworkers lifts home and such. I work in Reading, which is about 40 miles west of London, and most folk there were pretty calm about the whole thing. We listened to web-based news and such, but no one became hysterical about it.

Due to other circumstances, I was already having a shit day today, so I didn’t get jack done. In light of today’s events, though, I am inclined to cut myself some slack.

Finally, I would like to thank the emergency services in London. Their response today was professional and spot-on to what the city needed.
